Since 2013, Interplast, in partnership with the Australian and New Zealand College of Anaesthetists (ANZCA) and the
Bangladesh Society for Study of Pain – BSSP has been delivering Essential Pain Management (EPM) courses in Bangladesh. We recently completed an evaluation of the effectiveness and sustainability of this program, and are pleased to make the findings available.

Some key findings are highlighted below. Ongoing monitoring and evaluation of our programs is essential to ensure that we are meeting our objectives and continuing to address locally identified need in a sustainable way. This evaluation was part-funded by Australian Government Department of Foreign Affairs and Trade ’s ANCP.

IASP members voted to elect a new slate of officers and councilors. All will begin their terms in September 2020. Claudia Sommer (Germany), the current president-elect, will become president, and Lars Arendt-Nielsen (Denmark), the current president, will become the immediate past president.\
The following are the new IASP leaders:  IASP Officers 2020-2022 President: Claudia Sommer (Germany) President- Elect: Catherine Bushnell (USA) Treasurer: Michael Rowbotham (USA) (Four-year term: 2020 – 2024) Secretary: Mary Cardosa (Malaysia) Immediate Past President: Lars Arendt-Nielsen (Denmark) Newly Elected Councilors (2020-2026) Supranee Niruthisard (Thailand) Jennifer Stinson (Canada) Fiona Blyth (Australia) Margarita Calvo (Chile) Romy Parker (South Africa) The newly elected councilors join Nadine Attal (France), Sushma Bhatnagar (India), Eloise Carr (Canada), Robert Coghill (USA), Jordi Miro (Spain), Serge Perrot (France), Esther Pogatzki-Zahn (Germany), Andrew Rice (UK), Emiko Senba (Japan), and Michele Sterling (Australia) on the IASP Council.

Dr Mohammed Abdur Razzak (60) passed away on Jan 5, 2020 at 11:20 pm in Jaypee Hospital, Noida, India, due to complications following a liver transplant surgery.

He was a Director of Quasem Foundation. Before that, he was Professor of Anaesthesiology and Pain Management Specialist in BIRDEM Hospital for many years. He leaves behind wife Shahnaz and daughter Maisha, and a host of friends, relatives and well-wishers to mourn his passing.

His body will be placed at Shoptok Gondola, 11 Abbas Gardens, Mohakhali from 12 pm to 7 pm on 9 Jan for those wishing to pay last respects.

His Namaz-e-Janaza will be held on Friday Jan 10th, baad Jumma, in Gulshan Azad Mosque. He will be buried in the Siddique Bazar family graveyard.

BIRDEM হাসপাতাল এর সাবেক অধ্যাপক মোহাম্মদ আব্দুর রাজ্জাক গত  রাতে ০৫ই জানুয়ারী ২০২০ দিল্লীতে চিকিস্যাদিন অবস্থাই ইন্তেকাল করেছেন (ইন্না লিল্লাহে ………রাজেউন)  বাংলাদেশ সোসাইটি ফর স্টাডি অফ পেইন মরহুমের বিদেহী আত্মার মাগফেরাত কামনা করছে. তিনি  BSSP এর প্রতিঠাতাদের ১১ সদস্যের একজন ছিলেন. তিনি  ঢাকা মেডিকেল কলেজ এর কে- ৩৪ এর প্রাক্তন ছাত্র. অ্যালুমনি এসোসিয়েশন, ডিপার্টমেন্ট অফ অ্যানাসথেসিয়া, এনালজেসিয়া এন্ড ইনটেনসিভ কেয়ার মেডিসিন, BSMMU মরহুমের আত্মার মাগফেরাত কামনা করছে.

সাউথ এশিয়ান রিজিওনাল পেইন সোসাইটি (IASP ) নিয়ে IASP প্রেসিডেন্ট প্রফেসর Lars Ardent এর সঙ্গে আলোচনা চলছে. BSSP এর পক্ষ থেকে তাকে আগামী 2020 সালের নভেম্বর ১-৮ তারিখে SARPS মেগা প্রোগ্র্যাম বিষয়ে জানানো হয়.
